Finally, a modeled picture of Caprice:
I love it! The design, the fit, the color, the yarn, the buttons-- everything just sort of fell into place by the end. I initially started this project just hoping to end up with something wearable-- but I actually created a cute top that I'll be proud to wear. It's definitely a keeper!
And in the 'inspirational' category:
I went to see an exhibit of Keiji Tagawa's bead embroidery work yesterday. He's the author of the bead embroidery book I purchased at the end of May, and his work is simply stunning. The exhibit was divided according to several themes. The first section consisted of Keiji's interpretations of famous artworks. Using beads, he re-created some well-known paintings by artists like Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Roy Lichtenstein (you can see his version of Van Gogh's Starry Nights, above). Another section was devoted to his whimsical interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, while a third section consisted of works influenced by Japanese art and textiles. The final secion was devoted to his haute couture dresses. Some works were so breathtaking that I had to go back and look at them a second time.
I also discovered that he teaches one-day workshops and series of courses in three skill levels. The great part is that his studio is in town! It's sort of far away from where I live, but how often do such opportunities come about? Perhaps I'll jump in and try it out...
